Colleen Carter

Since I was a child I knew I wanted to travel the world. I watched movies, read books and dreamed about exotic places. As an adult I looked for a career that would take me to these places. I went to travel school and I started out 35 years ago as a leisure agent, planning vacations. After 5 years I switched my focus to corporate travel consulting. I prefer the fast paced, highly detailed corporate travel. My clients come from many different professions. I love being challenged and problem solving. I have traveled to many areas of the world and have many more countries on my bucket list. Although it is not exotic, Hawaii is one of my favorite places to visit.

THE GOOD STUFF

What travel experience did you have that outdid your expectations and completely surprised you?
In 1988 I went on an Amazon cruise on a small ship. Each port was very interesting and very different. The scenery and people were amazing. The cruise ended in Manaus, Brazil. In this city there is a beautiful opera house called Teatro Amazonas. It was a totally unexpected surprise to see this architecture in this part of the world.

What was your favorite solo travel experience?
Shanghai, China was my favorite solo experience. I love this city for the history and the modern style. I would go back to spend more time there.

What is your favorite travel destination? What is the thing that no one should miss when they visit?
Kauai, Hawaii is my favorite destination. Waimea Canyon is called "The Little Grand Canyon." This is a beautiful place to enjoy the color and scenery of this island. You can hike, take a helicopter, or just hang out. The Na Pali Coast is breathtaking. This can be reached by boat or you can hike in.

What is one of the most memorable experiences you have planned for a client?
Years ago to India, I planned a trip for a couple. The gentleman wanted to propose to his girlfriend at The Taj Mahal. She accepted and they have been married for years with a grown son.
